Political Science
From Brussels, to Houston, to Washington, D.C., UofSC helped me find personal and professional experiences that have shown me how to positively impact the people around me and around the World.
Impactful experience:
One of my most impactful experiences at UofSC was my Congressional internship through
the South Carolina Washington Semester Program. Being able to work in the capitol
building and contribute towards the processes that I’ve been studying for years was
an unmatched experience. Beyond that, D.C. is a fantastic city that is very rich in
both history and in culture.
Enjoy most as a TS:
Without a doubt, my favorite part about being a Top Scholar has been the friendships
that have started and grown due to my involvement in the program. What began as awkward
first interactions in the Honors dorm led to me finding an amazing group of life-long
friends.
Story:
In a private meeting during Scholar Weekend, I felt captivated by Dr. Kirk Randazzo’s
passion for and knowledge of legal and judicial politics. As I had budding interests
in the same areas, his advice about higher education and the opportunities provided
by UofSC for political science majors ultimately convinced me to make Columbia my
home for the next four years. During those four years, Dr. Randazzo has been my faculty
mentor, my professor (once in Columbia and once in Europe), and my Honors Thesis Director.
He has written me multiple recommendation letters and has given me plenty of valuable
advice. Ultimately, Dr. Randazzo helped me navigate higher education and helped me
figure out what I want to do in my life.
