The most fun opportunities lie outside your comfort zone.
Impactful experience:
Studying abroad in Shenzhen, China was incredibly impactful. I had many beautiful,
unique, and sometimes uncomfortable experiences that taught me to appreciate other
cultures and be adaptable.
Enjoy most as a TS:
I enjoy the Top Scholar community the most. I’ve been able to meet many intelligent,
ambitious, and curious friends that are fun to be around and push me to be a better
person.
Story:
In fall of 2019, I was able to watch the sunrise from the Great Wall of China with
my best friends. The trip started chaotically. We had to take a taxi for close to
2 hours to our hotel north of Beijing and got lost several times. The hotel was rather
unofficial and the manager did not speak English. We then had to wake up at 5 a.m.
for a van ride over to the wall. However, all the chaos and discomfort was worth it.
My friends and I shared a truly special moment. We were alone on the Great Wall of
China before it opened (thanks to the hotel owner’s connections) and watched the sun
rise over the hills.
