Exercise Science
During my junior year, I underwent a surgical repair on my hip. As an exercise science student, I understood the theoretical mechanics of the injury. Anatomy and exercise-focused classes suddenly became my situational reality. However, as I began working through psychological barriers to my recovery, I realized there were aspects of injury that I couldn’t understand until I lived them. As I applied rehabilitation principles to my own experience, I recognized the importance of considering all aspects of a situation, just as I have been taught through courses examining one subject from the perspective of another. Without classroom knowledge and personal experience, I would not have the foundation to practice physical therapy by approaching treatment through an interdisciplinary lens.
Future plans: Amy will begin studying for a doctorate of physical therapy at the University of South Carolina starting in fall 2020.
