Through the support of Scholar Programs, I traveled to Costa Rica over my freshman spring break for a medical service trip, which would prove seminal in determining my collegiate path. Inspired by our service, I became an Alternative Break trip director, focusing on homelessness and intersecting social issues in Columbia.

Career plans: Physician/physician-researcher; I am excited to embark on a career harnessing my love of science and people to improve the quality of life for others through medicine.

Most impactful experience: Working weekly at the Good Samaritan Clinic in Columbia, Studying abroad in Valencia, Spain, and taking my Econometrics class senior year have all greatly shaped my vision for my future and I am so grateful for this opportunities.
As a weekly Good Samaritan Clinic volunteer, I have been able to connect with patients through my love of the Spanish language and help provide better healthcare resources to a wonderful community that is often underserved in medicine.

Best part of the Top Scholars program: The community and friendships from the Top Scholar program have opened my mind to the great diversity of academic and intellectual pursuits. Through this community, I have found incredible friendships and classmates, and their passion, intelligence, and tenacity continue to inspire me!

UofSC Story: Stepping foot on UofSC's campus for the first time as a student, propelled forward with abundant enthusiasm, I was eager to soak up as much experience as I could, unsure where I would find my calling. Through the support of Scholar Programs, I travelled to Costa Rica over my freshman Spring Break for a medical service trip, which would prove seminal in determining my collegiate path. After returning, I realized I wanted to resume my Spanish classes, which ultimately led me to study abroad in Valencia, Spain. Inspired by our service, I became an Alternative Break trip director, focusing on homelessness and intersecting social issues in Columbia. I also found opportunities to serve as a tutor with our local refugee resettlement community and use my Spanish as a volunteer at the Good Samaritan Clinic. Ultimately, I am so grateful for the opportunities I have found at UofSC!
