As a writer in the Writers Group in USC’s Office of Communications and Marketing, Craig Brandhorst contributes features to a variety of university publications, including Carolinian alumni magazine, South Carolina Medicine and Breakthrough, the university’s research magazine. He also contributes regularly to USC Times and @UofSC Today.

Prior to joining the Office of Communications, Craig covered higher education and the local arts scene for the Columbia Free Times, where he also wrote the comedic home improvement column Fables of the Reconstruction. He has previously worked as a freelance copy editor, copywriter and journalist, and as a teacher at both the secondary and post-secondary level.

Craig graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1992 with a bachelor’s degree in English and art history. He holds a master’s degree in teaching (English) from USC as well as a master’s in fine arts in creative writing from Louisiana State University, where he edited the literary journal New Delta Review. He joined the Office of Communications in 2012.

In his spare time, Craig writes fiction and narrative nonfiction. He also has traveled extensively, having spent several summers teaching conversation English to teenagers in Poland during the 1990s.
