About this Fellowship

Virtual externship to increase participation from students with disabilities in international education opportunities.

The National Clearinghouse on Disability and Exchange (NCDE) is an ongoing project to increase the participation of people with disabilities in all types of International education opportunities through our informational resources. We are offering a paid opportunity for participants or alumni of both inbound and outbound international exchange programs to spearhead their very own community outreach activity.

The NCDE will work virtually with the selected externs to build on their activity for the most effective outreach. Applicants should know that it is not a "traditional" internship, where you do a series of assignments and dedicate a certain number of hours per week. Instead of contributing hours, the extern contributes a deliverable. The deliverable is what the extern proposes, and could be anything from an access guide to a specific country, a podcast series, a blog, or something else. The extern spends as much time or as little time as they need to finish their project.

Deadlines are typically in early March, but be sure to check the competition website for the current cycle’s deadline.

Eligibility Requirements

- You have participated (or are currently participating) in an international exchange program, which can be either:

- An Outbound Program (U.S. to Another Country) or

- An Inbound Program (Another Country to the U.S.)

- You are interested in teaching people with disabilities about participating in an exchange or educating program providers on how to include participants with disabilities.

- You have personal/professional experience with disability and international exchange.

The externship typically lasts from mid-March to early July. This program is open to current undergraduate/graduate students and recent alumni.
