Assistant Director for Data and Market Research, Strategic Marketing
John joined the Communications Division in May 2011. He conducts market research, assists in the measuring the effectiveness of communications programs, researches marketing strategies, collects data on target audience demographics and coordinates data sharing between the division and other university offices.
John arrived at the University of South Carolina in 1992 as a graduate student in political science. Both his bachelor's and master's degrees are in political science, concentrating in quantitative research methods. Before joining the communications team, he served for 12 years as a research analyst in USC's Office of Institutional Assessment and Compliance.
He has extensive experience as a higher education institutional researcher, specifically in the collection and analysis of longitudinal data and he is a seasoned SAS programmer. John is a member of the American Marketing Association and the Association for Institutional Research.
Before arriving at USC, John worked as a translator and consultant in Dresden, Germany, in the immediate aftermath of the reunification of the country. Prior to that, he was assistant dean of admissions at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y.
John enjoys travel and has spent time in 28 countries. He recently completed a sequence of Spanish courses at USC and is seeking to further his Spanish skills through occasional travel in Latin America.
