This program provides funding for individual doctoral students who conduct research in other countries, in modern foreign languages and area studies for periods of six to 12 months.
Projects deepen research knowledge on and help the nation develop capability in areas of the world not generally included in U.S. curricula. Projects focusing on Western Europe are not supported.
Please note: Fulbright Hays Doctoral Dissertation Awards can only be submitted by the University of South Carolina. Please contact National Fellowships directly at least 30 days (or as soon as possible) before the deadline date to indicate your intent to apply for this program and to review the procedures and requirements for applications.
Current graduate students applying for the Fulbright Hays must also submit information to the Education Abroad Office at least 30 days prior to departure. See their website for more information.
Provides an average of $46,000 of support for up to one year of dissertation research abroad.

Available to graduating seniors, graduate students and recent alumni to conduct research, pursue advanced study, practice a creative art or undertake teaching assistantships for one year in a foreign country. Supports one year of research, study, or teaching English abroad through the US Fulbright program. Travel and living expenses provided.
Offers support to graduate students in the humanities and humanistic social sciences who are enrolled in PhD programs in the United States and conducting dissertation research on non-US topics. Award value is an average of $23,000.
