The ASH Minority Hematology Graduate Award supports students from underrepresented racial and ethnic backgrounds who are PhD students and intend to pursue a career in academic hematology.
Applicants may apply in their first, second, or third year of their PhD programs and must propose research focused on a hematologic condition or biological process.
Applicants must self-identify as a member of a minority racial or ethnic group. For the purposes of this program, minority is defined as a group of people from racial and ethnic groups that have been shown to be underrepresented in health-related sciences in the United States and Canada. This includes American Indians or Alaska Natives, Blacks or African Americans, Hispanics or Latinos, Native Hawaiians or other Pacific Islanders, African Canadians, Inuit, and First Nation Peoples.
Applications are typically due in mid-January.
$40,000 annual stipend for two years.

Provides one year of support to complete a dissertation leading to a PhD or ScD degree for individuals committed to teaching at the college or university level. One-year stipend of $25,000, and expenses to attend one Conference of Ford Fellows.
National Institutes of Health National Research Service Awards are training fellowships for doctoral-level biomedical researchers. NIH NRSA F-series awards support students in MD/PhD (F30) and PhD (F31 and F31 Diversity) programs. Provides an annual stipend of $26,352 plus 60% of tuition costs (up to $16,000) and coverage of training-related expenses for up to five years.
