Welcome from Dean Addy!
Welcome to the Graduate School at the University of South Carolina!
Our mission is the enhance your experience as a graduate student through meaningful professional development, academic enrichment and student services. We strive to build bridges across campus and the community – Columbia and beyond – to showcase our diverse and talented graduate student body.
The Graduate School was founded in 1906, 15 years after the first doctoral degree was conferred. Today we work with 13 colleges and schools to offer 38 unique certificates of graduate study, 64 master’s degree programs and 64 doctoral degree programs to more than 6,200 graduate students hailing from all 50 states and 83 countries. Our academic programs include traditional campus-based programs, fully asynchronous online programs, and numerous partnerships with regional and international institutions of higher education. Currently, 53 of our graduate programs are nationally ranked, more than all other colleges and universities in South Carolina, combined.
In addition to friendly and efficient student services to facilitate your application and progression as a graduate student at UofSC, the Graduate School provides numerous professional development and academic enrichment activities for every graduate student and for several groups of competitively selected scholars. We also provide information about resources on campus and many other opportunities and work closely with the Graduate Student Association to address any student issues.
Strong and vibrant graduate education is critical to maintaining our Carnegie ratings of doctoral institution with highest research activity and community engagement. At the same time, we focus on what you as an individual need to expand your knowledge in your chosen field of study and to be successful in your career trajectory.
