Courses
The University of South Carolina is committed to providing a safe, supportive, and inclusive community for all of our students. Community education courses are a requirement for incoming graduate students to ensure that new students are aware of their rights and resources.
Incoming graduate students must take the following three online courses as part of the registration process:
Sexual Assault Prevention
Presents realistic and interactive skill-building scenarios.
Mental Well-Being
Helps educate students on critical social and emotional well-being topics that they may face on campus and provides strategies on how to manage them.
Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging
Helps students better understand and celebrate the diversecampus community we call home.
How to Take the Courses
Check your USC email or log into Self Service Carolina at my.sc.edu and use the links under the Community Education tab.
Deadlines
The three virtual courses will open on July 24, 2023. The courses will then be available to take anytime, online, before the due date. Part one of each course is due August 24, 2023. Part two of each course is due October 24, 2023.
FAQs
All new, incoming graduate students are required to take the training.
The training is provided by Vector Solutions Higher Education, a company which provides safety, well-being, and inclusion training that meets the evolving needs of colleges and universities.
Yes. We understand some of the material in the training may be triggering. Students who would like to request an accommodation for the SAVIP training should reach out to USC Sexual Assault and Interpersonal Violence Intervention and Prevention (SAVIP) at 803-777-8248. Students can also visit the SAVIP website for more information about how to speak with an advocate.
