Master of Accountancy candidate thrives in Accelerated program

Stone Bauguess (B.S. ’18), Master of Accountancy candidate

As data analytics curriculum continues to ramp up at the Moore School, more students are taking advantage of the enhanced and new courses available. Master of Accountancy (MACC) candidate Stone Bauguess is one such student.

“I’ve learned a lot about information technology in the context of accounting and auditing and how certain technology has been implemented into many business processes over the last few years,” he said. “I’ve also learned how to utilize certain software such as IDEA,  Tableau,  R, and SQL, which are becoming more widely used within the accounting industry, making the ability to use them a more necessary skill for any aspiring accounting professional.”

Stone is in the Accelerated MACC program, so he started taking graduate-level courses as an undergrad and was able to count them toward both his bachelor’s and his master’s, saving him time and making it easier to prepare for the CPA exam. Even before completing his undergraduate accounting degree, he knew he wanted to stay at the Moore School for his master’s.

“I was able to form relationships with several professors and felt like I had already found the optimal environment to learn and grow, so I had no reason to consider looking anywhere else for my graduate degree,” he said.

Although he has a semester left in the program, Stone has already landed a job with a Big Four accounting firm. After he graduates in May 2019, Stone will be working as an auditor for KPMG in Charlotte.
