UofSC's exchange program in Chiang Mai is designed to provide American students with first-hand knowledge of Thai life and culture. Situated in the northern Thailand, Chiang Mai is the largest city with approximately 400,000 residents. A cultural hub means that Chiang Mai offers students a chance to explore the history, art, religion, nature and food of Thailand. Chiang Mai is a bustling city that students are sure to enjoy!

The local area has elephant parks, a temple on the mountain, a night market, and a 700 year old temple in town. The international program organizes a variety of local, regional, and international activities each year. Students also have the opportunity for travel on their own.

Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details.

CMU does offer some on campus housing for international students. They also assist with locating off campus housing, which runs around $300 USD per month.

The academic calendar at CMU only allows for students to attend for the spring semester. 

All students will be given a comprehensive orientation at the beginning of the semester.  

All students studying in Thailand will need to apply for an ED visa. If a student plans on traveling in the area outside of Thailand they should apply for a multi-entrance visa. Students cannot apply earlier than 90 days before their departure, but should apply as early as possible to ensure the arrival of their visa in a timely manner.
