UofSC's exchange program in Scotland is designed to expose students to the life and culture of the Scottish people. Although a smaller city (population 160,000), Dundee has excellent cultural, social, sporting and shopping facilities. Dundee is also known for having the best climate of all of Scotland's cities with the most sunshine and lowest rain fall. Students will attend the University of Dundee.
Cost: UofSC resident tuition rates + in-country costs
Requirements: minimum 3.0 GPA
The United Kingdom is an expensive place to study abroad due to the weak dollar against the strong pound. Due to this fact, students need to budget accordingly and be aware that prices will be higher while in the UK.
The program in Dundee offers a full curriculum. Students typically take three courses (60 SCOTCATs) and earn 15 US credits per semester. Students can take courses from the following faculties: Arts and Social Sciences, Life Sciences, Law and Accountancy, Physical Science and Engineering, and Art. Students take classes with Scottish and other international students. Portfolios are required if applying for Art and Design courses.
To see courses UofSC students have taken at this university, please reference the Registrar's Course Equivalency Table.
The program does not offer organized excursions. Students have the opportunity for individual travel. Large metropolitan cities like Edinburgh and Glasgow are only a day trip away. Opportunities for regional travel are abundant in the UK and are only a short train ride or flight from mainland Europe.
Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details.
Students are housed in single study bedrooms in apartments consisting of two to nine other bedrooms. Each apartment is equipped with a kitchen/dining area. A typical study bedroom has a private bathroom, though some less expensive accommodations with shared bathrooms are also available. Exchange students pay in-state tuition and fees to UofSC. Room and board costs are paid in Dundee and vary based on the type of accommodation chosen.
