The UofSC exchange program in Mannheim is designed to expose students to German life and culture and international business practices. The program is located in Mannheim in southwest Germany. With approximately 322,000 residents, Mannheim is the second-largest city in the state of Baden-Württemberg after Stuttgart. This university town is a well-known industrial center and is situated 45 miles south of Frankfurt and 60 miles northwest of Stuttgart. There are approximately 11,000 students at the University of Mannheim.

Mannheim is an affordable larger city in Germany. In addition to in-state tuition and fees paid to UofSC and housing fees paid to Mannheim, students should expect to spend approximately 400€ per month on living expenses. This estimate includes food, transportation, textbooks/materials, German health insurance, and entertainment.
Exchange students must take the majority of their courses in the Business School but may also take elective courses in the "Intercultural Studies" program. Although most classes are taught in English, students are strongly encouraged to have some basic German language skills. Students wishing to pursue coursework in German must have completed at least five semesters of college-level German or the equivalent. Students at Mannheim have the opportunity for individual travel and the city of Mannheim is a perfect starting point to explore Germany and the rest of Europe. It is only a 30-minute train ride away from the Frankfurt International Airport and a short journey from France and Switzerland.
Per university policy, all UofSC students will be charged emergency medical, evacuation and repatriation insurance for their time abroad. Contact the Study Abroad Office for more details.
There are student housing and private housing options available. Students should expect to pay between 295€-450€ per month for a room in a shared apartment or 400€-600€ per month for a one-room apartment.
In the Mannheim academic calendar, the fall semester runs from the end of August to the end of January and the spring semester runs from the beginning of February to the end of July. IB students will attend Mannheim during the spring semester.
The International Office holds a Welcome Week for exchange students the week before classes begin each semester. In addition, the Business School will also organize orientation events specifically for Business exchange students.
US citizens are not required to obtain a visa prior to departure. Upon arrival in Germany, students are required to obtain a German residence permit. Mannheim will assist students with this process.
