Student Notes


  • Addison Arey (Sport and Entertainment Management) began a dj influencer internship with Infinity Marketing in Greenville, South Carolina.
  • Leah Blanchard (Sport and Entertainment Management) accepted a community relations internship with the Tampa Bay Rays.
  • Julia Burden (Retailing) accepted a product position internship with the Legends team for the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill C.C. in Rochester, NY.
  • Madison Butler (Sport and Entertainment Management) accepted a guest experience internship with the Miami Dolphins for the summer of 2023.
  • Lynn Davis (Hospitality Management) accepted a merchandising operations internship for the 2023 PGA Championship at Oak Hill in Rochester, NY.
  • Wil Fisackerly (Sport and Entertainment Management Ph.D. student) had his article “Do We Need Esports Ecology?” accepted for publication in the Journal of Electronic Gaming and Esports. Fisackerly collaborated with HRSM alumnus Walker Ross (Sport and Entertainment Management Ph.D., ‘19) on the research.
  • Hunter Holson (Sport and Entertainment Management) accepted an internship with Grady Sports Agency.
  • Clay Horowitz (Sport and Entertainment Management) started an NFL marketing internship with Sportstars. 
  • Ainsley Isenhour (Retailing) accepted a product development and design summer internship with Augusta National Golf Club.
  • Nickie Joseph (Sport and Entertainment Management) started an event manager internship with the Carolina Cup Racing Association.
  • Rachel Killen (Hospitality Management and Business Management) accepted a position for after graduation with the Marriott International Voyage Leadership Development Program. Starting this June,  she will join the team at the Ritz-Carlton in Denver, Colorado in Rooms Operations.
  • Al Lee (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as an academic coach at the Dodie Anderson Academic Enrichment Center.
  • Zepeng “Jake” Liu (Tourism Management) accepted a rotational internship with Old Chicago Columbia. 
  • Clare McDonnell (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as assistant learning specialist at Dodie Academic Enrichment Center.
  • Emily Reichling (Sport and Entertainment Management) accepted a summer 2023 game day internship with the Augusta Greenjackets.
  • Lily Shevlin (Sport and Entertainment Management) accepted a ticket and fan services internship with the Philadelphia Eagles for the summer of 2023.
  • Luke Swearingen (Sport and Entertainment Management) accepted an events internship with SportsMEDIA Technology Corp (SMT) in Jacksonville, Florida for spring semester.
  • Carlo White (Hospitality Management) accepted a sales leadership development internship with E. & J. Gallo Winery for the summer of 2023.

Faculty/Staff Notes


  • Bill Sutton was honored by the Phoenix Suns for his 22-year consulting relationship with the franchise.
  • Four School of Hospitality and Tourism Management faculty members and nine Ph.D. students attended the 28th annual Graduate Education and Graduate Student Research Conference in Hospitality and Tourism in Fort Worth, Texas.
  • Scott Taylor completed a certification in Craft Brewing from Cornell University.
  • The USC Center for Teaching Excellence recognized the following HRSM faculty members and graduate assistants for their positive impact on students: Sang-Eun Byun, Tarlan Chahardovali, Kristy Ellison, Miriam Feng, Reenea Harrison, Chris Knezevich, Tom Regan, Richard Southall, Steve Taylor, Laura Truell, Donna Watts and Thomas Yarborough.
  • Ronald Rudloff Ingle (1940-2023) died at his home on January 18 after a long illness. Ingle was a faculty member and associate dean at HRSM (then the College of Applied and Professional Sciences) beginning in 1972, before becoming the first president of Coastal Carolina University.
  • Research on restaurants’ use of QR codes by Ph.D. student Ali Iskender, Ercan Sirakaya Turk, David Cardenas and Neşet Hikmet of the College of Engineering and Computing was added to the World Health Organization’s COVID-19 Research Database.

  • Allie Banks (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22) was promoted to ticket operations coordinator for Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.
  • Gillian Bay (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22) was promoted to premium experiences manager with the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp.
  • Alexis Biegeleisen (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘13) started a new position as Agency Success Manager - Creator Marketing Solutions at TikTok.\
  • Delaney Black (Hospitality Management, '22) started a new position as wedding and event coordinator with Signature Catering and Events in Hilton Head Island, SC.
  • Ashley Brusca (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘14) was promoted to senior event manager with Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC).
  • Anthony Candelori-Moraglia (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘20) was promoted to Philadelphia market manager with SponsorUnited. 
  • Emma Caves (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘19) was promoted to security manager with Austin FC.
  • Cameryn Coursen (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22)  accepted a full-time position as account coordinator with Bespoke Sports and Entertainment after completing her internship with the company.
  • Kristin Detweiler (Hospitality Management, ‘95) was named to the Association of Destination Management Executives International’s Certification and Accreditation Board. 
  • Jesse Fayne (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘13) accepted a new position as VP international festivals with Wasserman.
  • Erin Furton (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘21) started a new position as hospitality and events trainee at MKTG Sports + Entertainment in Charlotte.
  • Shalonda Goins (Hospitality Management, ‘12) was promoted to region manager with Waffle House.
  • Enoch Goodwin (Hospitality Management, 22) started a new position as Catering Sales Manager at DoubleTree by Hilton in Columbia.
  • Paige Marra Gunther (Hospitality Management, ‘21) accepted a new position as office manager and planning assistant with A Charleston Bride.
  • Kelsey Hemenway (Hospitality Management, ‘22) started a position as a rooms operations voyager at the W Hoboken hotel as part of the Marriott Voyage program.
  • Julia Horowitz (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22) accepted a new position as account executive with the South Carolina Stingrays.
  • Laura Kitchens (Hospitality Management, ‘00), Area Director of Sales at Residence Inn & Springhill Suites by Marriott Augusta, won the Hotel Equities 2022 Q3 “Sales Ninja" Award.
  • Florencia Laber (Hospitality Management, ‘20) accepted a position as area revenue analyst with Kimpton Hotels, based at the Kimpton Tryon Park in Charlotte.
  • Julia Liguori (Hospitality Management with a minor in Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22) started a new position as assistant event services manager at Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort & Spa in Cedar Creek, Texas.
  • Morgan Lee (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22) started a new position as membership sales representative with the Los Angeles Kings.
  • Cameron Mecca (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘22) was promoted to Account Executive - Business Development with the Carolina Hurricanes.

  • Madison Scholl (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘21) started a new position as digital content creator for the Big 12 Conference.
  • Kaylee Schurlknight (Hospitality Management, ‘22) accepted a position as a Walt Disney Company cast member, and will be a vacation planner at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.
  • Frank Terrapin IV (Sport and Entertainment Management, ‘19) was promoted to assistant director of athletics parking with USC Athletics.
  • John Thomas (Retailing, ‘05) was named to Morgan Stanley’s prestigious Pacesetter's Club, a global recognition program for financial advisors who have demonstrated the highest level of professional standards and first-class client service.
