Richardson Family SmartState Center for Economic Excellence in Tourism and Economic Development

The SmartState Tourism center is dedicated to working on applicable, impactful research that supports the advancement of South Carolina's tourism economy. 

The Richardson Family SmartState Center of Economic Excellence in Tourism and Economic Development (SmartState Tourism) is dedicated to generating data-driven insights that inform and support the growth of South Carolina’s tourism economy. SmartState Tourism works with industry professionals, scholars, organizations and stakeholders across three primary areas of focus. 

Research: leading innovative, cutting-edge and timely research to respond to industry needs. 

Consulting: working with partners to analyze tourism trends and develop sustainable strategies for success. 

Training:  providing in-demand knowledge and skills through dynamic workshops, certificates and courses.

About the Director
