Faculty, staff and student notes

  • Simon Hudson, Robin DiPietro, Drew Martin, Jing Li, Xiao (Forest) Ma and Swechchha Subedi published their report, “Strategic Adaptation During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Best Practices from the Tourism and Hospitality Industry.” The report is the product of research funded by a grant from the U.S. Commerce Department.
  • Sport and Entertainment Management Professor Danny Morrison served as executive director for the Duke’s Mayo Bowl college football game in Charlotte. This year’s successful bowl matchup featured the Gamecocks defeating North Carolina. Students from Morrison’s classes worked at the game.

  • Luke Mashburn (Sport and Entertainment Management, ′11) wrote the entries for event and facility management for the recently released Encyclopedia of Sport Management.

  • Meredith Waples (Hospitality Management) started a new position as accountant at Pete Alewine Pools.

  • Anna Carron (Sport and Entertainment Management) was promoted to media planner at Publicis Media.
  • Jordan Craw (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as office manager at Visit York County.
  • Blake Toomer (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as account executive at Learfield Ticket Solutions.
  • Bailey Boudreau (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as real estate consultant with Laurie Reader Real Estate.

  • Sarah Walker (Hospitality Management) was promoted to director of development at Emory University.

  • Kristen Martin (Retailing - Fashion Merchandising) was promoted to VP of sales and operations at Agent Nateur.
  • Megan Fallaw (Retailing) started a new position as CRM lead at ScentAir.
  • Matthew McBreen (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as manager, corporate consulting and activation with Genesco Sports Enterprises.

  •  Heather Hale (Retailing) was promoted to head of social committee at A.P. Moller - Maersk.
2011
  • Aaron Reeves (Sport and Entertainment Management) started a new position as director, gaming content and new business ventures, global partnerships and media with the National Basketball Association (NBA).
2007
  • Brent Simmons (Sport and Entertainment Management), Senior Director, Partnership Marketing - Americas for City Football Group, was part of the team as New York City Football Club (NYCFC) won its first MLS Cup. City Football Group owns Manchester City Football Club, New York City FC, Melbourne City FC and seven additional football clubs across the globe.
2004
  • Lance Brown (Sport and Entertainment Management) is now CEO / president of Rhino Medical Supply, which was featured in a WACH Fox story as the company begins selling at-home COVID-19 tests to the public.
