Sigma Psi Mu is a co-ed professional fraternity for sport and entertainment management majors, founded at the University of South Carolina ten years ago. Its goal has been to provide its members with professional development, social bonding and networking opportunities. Not only does it help its members build professional skills, it is also a community that creates lifelong friendships.
This year, Sigma Psi Mu is celebrating its 10th year anniversary with a year of extended alumni celebrations. In March, Vice President Lilly Gilmore, who handled alumni relations for the 2025-26 school year, organized a week of festivities. During their weekly chapter meetings on Tuesday, they kicked off Alumni Week with a panel of Sigma Psi Mu alumni guest speakers. It allowed the current members to hear experiences of past brothers on how they got their start in the industry and where they landed.
On Wednesday, brothers and alumni were invited to the preview room at Williams-Brice Stadium to get an advanced look at the renovations being done to the stadium. On Thursday, Sigma Psi Mu hosted an alumni cocktail where members, professors, and brothers were able to connect and strengthen relationships through the fraternity.
On Friday, Gilmore collaborated with Social Chair Tiana Martinez to organize a golf outing at Oak Hills Golf Club. The brothers were grouped with alumni and professors that aligned with their career goals, which allowed them to connect while playing a round of golf. Finally, Sigma Psi Mu hosted a baseball tailgate, ending the weekend with a fun social event that allowed brothers and alumni to bond.
Gilmore graduated in May, and is now an inside sales representative with the Washington Commanders. Lilly says that “Sig Psi has been one of the best decisions I’ve made since coming to South Carolina. Not only have I met some of my favorite people, but I’ve also grown into the best version of myself, both personally and professionally. Getting involved in the executive board especially has pushed me to become more confident, improve my communication skills, and grow as a leader.”
Gilmore’s successor as vice president, Hope Thurman, is currently planning a fall alumni weekend. Hope says that “Sig Psi means so much to me because it has given me friendships, leadership skills, and career guidance. I have developed close relationships with many of our brothers, and it is truly beneficial to be surrounded by people who push you to be better and have similar interests. I have also gained leadership skills through the opportunity to serve on our board as recruitment chair, and now vice president. Lastly, through work opportunities like the Credit One Charleston Open and our guest speakers, I have been able to narrow down where I would like to work in sports, which is something that I had been searching for prior to joining Sig Psi!”
Sigma Psi Mu hosts recruitment every fall and spring semester. HRSM sport and entertainment management majors who want to connect with peers, get exclusive access to sport and entertainment trips and work experiences, and be surrounded by people with similar interests, should attend Sigma Psi Mu’s next information session and recruitment to learn more about the organization.
“Sig Psi has been one of the most influential parts of my college experience. It has helped me grow a lot personally, as I’ve met many of my closest friends through Sig Psi. It has also been very impactful on my professional career between the new member process teaching me a lot about professional development and being on board, helping me learn how to serve my organization and work with others. I have also had the privilege to hear from so many great industry professionals at our chapter meetings that have taught me so much about working in sport and entertainment,” says Jack Jensen.
