Grammy Award-winning String Quartet Returns to USC

The Washington Post described the quartet as having exceptional virtuosity and imaginative interpretation

The Parker Quartet begins its third year as the University of South Carolina’s Quartet-in-Residence.  The world-renowned quartet members Daniel Chong and Ying Xue, violin, Jessica Bodner, viola, and Kee-Hyun Kim, cello, return to Columbia October 13-20, 2014.

In addition to coachings and master classes for USC music students, the quartet will present programs to Lexington High School, Chapin High School and the Greenville Fine Arts Center. New this year, the Parker Quartet will have an interactive children’s performance on Saturday, October 18 at 10:00 a.m. in the School of Music Recital Hall (813 Assembly St). The event is free and open to the public.

Concerts on October 15 and 17 take place in the brand new W.W. Hootie Johnson Performance Hall at the
Darla Moore School of Business, designed by New York architect Raphael Viñoly.

"We are excited to see our relationship with the University of South Carolina continue to grow and evolve. The community at the school and in Columbia is incredibly enthusiastic and supportive, and we look forward to working with the students and reconnecting with the wonderful faculty and supporters that make this residency possible each year. Each visit we are immersed in the school as well as the outer-lying community, ranging in events from individual coachings, public master classes, and visits to different departments, to educational outreach in schools in Columbia and around South Carolina. It is a wonderful way for us to observe, and be a part of, the wide impact that music can have on communities around USC." — Kee-Hyun Kim
