Appointment announced in choral studies

Jabarie Glass is appointed associate director of choral studies

The School of Music  announces the appointment of Dr. Jabarie Glass as associate director of choral studies. Dr. Glass will teach undergraduate and graduate courses in choral music education and conducting, and will supervise student teachers. He will also conduct the University Chorus and the UofSC Women’s Chorus.

His diverse conducting experiences have included working with university, secondary, community youth, festival and church choral ensembles. He maintains an active schedule of concerts, lectures, guest conducting and adjudication engagements throughout the United States.

A versatile conductor, Dr. Glass’s recent creative work includes performances of Gabriel Fauré’s Requiem in D minor, Op. 48; Caroline Shaw’s To the Hands; Dieterich Buxtehude’s Membra Jesu Nostri; and William Grant Still’s opera, Highway 1, USA.  His research interests include conducting pedagogy, music literacy and pre-service teacher education.

Dr. Glass holds degrees from University of Mississippi, Florida State University and the University of Michigan. He is currently serving as the interim associate director of choral studies.
