CPARG members, Russ Pate, Sharon Ross and Marsha Dowda, have published an article entitled, “Patterns of age-related change in physical activity during the transition from elementary to high school” in Preventive Medicine Reports. The study was based on data from CPARG’s TRACK study, and a cohort of over 900 children were followed from elementary to high school. Longitudinal patterns of change in physical activity were examined in the full cohort and in sub-groups based on demographic characteristics. A key finding was that physical activity declined steeply before the age of 14 years and less steeply after that age. Patterns did not differ across race/ethnicity groups, but differences were observed across groups based on sex, parent education level, and urbanicity.
